The 1408m peak of the Puig Campana ( Bell-shaped Mountain) dominates Sella and is seen locally as ” our” mountain. Of course, you can also see the summit from Benidorm, Finestrat, La Nucia…
If you set out to climb it, start early and be prepared to return late – we have had one group binighted up there and another air-lifted off when they got lost, tired and cold. Other than that, no problems!
As a walk it´s splendid, but start on the inland side, where there´s a good zig-zag track up from the Col de Pouet. From Finestrat it´s an ugly scree slope cursed with loose rock and soil.
Around San Juan in June, midsummer, the locals like to climb up in the full moon and camp the night. I´ve seen about 25-30 up there. And, June or not, full moon or not, it hets cold so take a fat fleece and a 3 season sleeping bag!
